While rehearsing for a re-performance of CLOUDS ON CLEAR SKY at Vierte Welt in September and early October 2022, we again invited guests with different expertises to share their take on topics and discourses around death, mourning and finitude. Curator and cultural anthropologist Eva Busch facilitated a workshop to discuss personal, legal, symbolic and political aspects of inheritance and heritage. Art historian Jörn Kuhn guided a tour through Alter St. Matthäus-Kirchhof, focussing on the history of the site and the stories of LGTBQ+ and others who died of AIDS for whom the cemetery became a place in times of severe stigmatization. ‘Evenings’ are a series organized together with Marie DuPasquier/Display Berlin. In September ’21, weekly, we opened the rehearsal space for CLOUDS ON CLEAR SKY at Vierte Welt in order to look at our subject of examination, experiences around dying, death and loss, through the lens of different media and practices with invited artists, thinkers, and the audience. A film about the disappearance of womxn in the waters of Berlin (Magali Dougoud), a talk on tears (Gesine Palmer), a ritualized dinner (Carrie McILwain) and a sound performance which raises the tension between the personal apprehension of death and the abstraction of statistical numbers (Laure Boer with Evelyn Saylor & Pina Rücker) were featured during this month. Postindependent was a live exhibition that proposes new visions of intimacy and cooperation growing out of the ruins of imperial capitalism. Part of it were creators from different aesthetic contexts and parts of the world, using more or less material technologies to form and perform postindependent bonding. Rooted in queer, indigenous and environmental perspectives, their work aimed at enabling new experiences of playing with rather than (only) struggling against. In the vast space of the former betting bureau FORTUNA WETTEN postindependency appeared multi-faceted: as a carrier of hope, a process of mourning, an uncanniness, a vulnerable encounter. With artists Susanne Kohler, Nathan Powless-Lynes, Circaeaa and Irina Gheorge. Curated in collaboration with Anna Zett in Summer 2022 in the frame of Project Space Festival Berlin. Photo: Joe Clark

From August 2019 to July 2020, I am invited by ada Studio as an in-house dance writer and critic. Since 2006, the small venue on the areal of Uferstudios has been hosting and supporting young dance artists in Berlin. As ada’s Studioschreiberin (studio writer) I watch their works, research showings and sketches, or engage in conversations about their practice. My texts aim at offering critique to the artists as well as they are an investigation into modes of writing about dance. They are regularly published once week after the shows on the website of ada Studio. Photo © Aïsha Mia Lethen Bird / ada Studio.

For Neha Kudchadkar’s show All that is in this thing at DISPLAY Berlin, curator Marie DuPasquier invited guest artists from other fields to dialogue with the artist   and her work in the space of the exhibition, discovering and reconfiguring the contact zones between their different practices. In a performative reading, Neha and I brought together fragments of texts referring to visible and invisible traces of bodily experiences, and investigating the poetics of measuring the world through the body and the body through the world.
